here is some Olympic trivia:
The five Olympic rings represent the five continents that compete at the games; Asia, Europe, Australia, America and Africa.
A sport must be played on 4 continents before the IOC will consider it as a men's Olympic event.
More than 200 nations participate.
The games are actually awarded to a city and not a country.
At the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, silver medals were awarded to the winners and bronze to the second place getters.
The 2012 London Olympics will be officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
The 2012 London Olympics is aiming to be the greenest Olympics yet. A million new trees are being planted, spectators will arrive by Tube rather than car and massive recycling projects will be carried on during the games.
The Olympic medals are designed especially for each individual Olympic Games by the host city's organizing committee. Each medal must be at least three millimeters thick and 60 millimeters in diameter. Also, the gold and silver Olympic medals must be made out of 92.5 percent silver, with the gold medal covered in six grams of gold.
Let the games begin ... be sure to tune in.
